Veganism is definitely trending. It could be a healthy choice or an ethical one, but we all have at least one friend who is vegan or about to become one.
According to The Vegan Society, who created the term back in 1944, veganism is “(…) a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.”
So, it is not only removing meat and dairy products form one’s diet, but a more comprehensive lifestyle choice that strives to avoid animal cruelty and exploitation.
Makes sense, yes? But what if your newly vegan friend is coming to dinner? When a margherita pizza or meatball pasta may not be the right option, a vegan diet includes all grains, legumes, vegetables fruits, and the nearly infinite number of foods made by combining them. And don’t worry if animal fats such as butter or margarine are a no-no, they can be switched with vegetable fats like olive oil that cannot be missing due to its incredible healthy benefits.
People who are not into veganism may think that this kind of food is boring and tasteless. These feeds below demonstrate that not only is that thinking untrue, but with the right ingredients and a good amount of creativity, even your vegan meal can become something beautiful to see and yummy to eat.
Anyone going to have vegan food soon?!
