Everyday your skin comes into contact with pollutants which can lead to textural issues, clogged pores, poor luminosity, and dry, irritated skin, Allure reports. A good skincare routine is essential for happy, healthy skin and you can make your own DIY beauty products to keep it in beautiful condition. Using DIY products with natural ingredients will give you softer skin — drugstore and luxury brands often add drying agents — and may even help acne clear up. DIY skincare is also cheaper, too. Here are some DIY skincare ideas for you to try out yourself.
Exfoliate with homemade sugar scrub
Exfoliating your face regularly is essential for removing dead cells on the surface of the skin. It also increases blood circulation to result in a healthy, glowing complexion. Make your own sugar scrub to exfoliate your skin. Sugar is a natural source of glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), which penetrates and loosens the surface skin cells, resulting is quicker cell turnover and brighter, younger-looking skin. To make a simple sugar scrub, mix together one cup of organic granulated sugar and half a cup of either olive olive or coconut oil. Add in a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Use the face scrub at least three times a week.
DIY moisturizer
Moisturizing locks in the skin’s moisture and prevents flakiness and dryness. DIY moisturizer can avoid harmful chemicals which are particularly irritating to sensitive skin. Place a glass bowl over a pan of simmering water and add: ½ cup shea butter, two tablespoons of extra virgin coconut oil, and two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. Melt and mix together and pour into a glass jar. Leave the moisturizer to cool and then set in the fridge. Remove and store at room temperature. Alternatively, Olivella moisturizer cream uses 100% olive oil to create a lightweight, hydrating formula. Olive oil has a high antioxidant and vitamin content which works to prevent premature aging and treat skin conditions, such as, eczema and psoriasis.
Banish stretch marks with body oil
Stretch marks occur when your body grows quickly (during weight gain or pregnancy, for example) and your skin can’t grow quickly enough to keep up. As a result, stretch marks form. Stretch marks are common and nothing to worry about, but you may wish they were less noticeable. Both lavender or patchouli oil can be used to stimulate collagen production and form new connective tissue to heal the marks. Alternately, Olivella body oil is made with virgin olive oil and enriched with sweet almond oil and natural essences. Sweet almond oil is rich in vitamin E and monounsaturated fatty acids effective for healing damaged skin fiber and improving skin tone.
Making your own skincare products is a little extra effort, but they’re worth it in the long run. When you do buy skincare products, however, make sure you opt for ones made from nourishing, natural ingredients. You can therefore rest assured they’re doing your skin good.
