Every summer Spoleto, Italy hosts the world famous Festival dei Due Monde. And this year an exceptional show hits the town. The Jean Paul Gautier Freak Show is traveling cities worldwide this season and the news is everywhere. Even the cover of Tatler Magazine (see below) highlights this once in a lifetime event.
The Spoleto festival describes the program as follows:
Eccentric, scandalous, provocative, exuberant and fun as ever, Jean Paul Gaultier amazes the public with an explosive show between the theater and the fashion show. On the stage, actors, dancers, singers and circus performers wear the role of passionate, impertinent, exaggerated and sensual creatures. Author, director and set designer of the Fashion Freak Show, Jean Paul Gaultier turns his eyes to our times in an extravagant and at the same time tender way, and invites us backstage, in his world full of excesses, poetry and magic.
From childhood to the early years of his career, from his spectacular fashion catwalks to crazy nights at Le Palace and London, Gaultier shares unpublished life stories and pays tribute to those who inspired him.
Along with his most famous creations, from the famous marinière to the iconic Madonna corset, dozens of new and amazing costumes were made for the show, to be framed in equally exuberant sets. For this extraordinary production, Gaultier has collaborated with big names in the industry, such as the actress, screenwriter and director Tonie Marshall, who co-directs the show, and Marion Motin for the choreography.
From disco music to funk, from pop to rock and even to new wave and punk, the Fashion Freak Show presents a resounding playlist of successes that inspired the artist throughout his life. A great party to enjoy irresponsibly!
