First let’s begin with an obvious question, what is an Ayurvedic Clock? According to Yoga International it matches your mealtimes, sleep cycle, and activities in order to restore your balance and improve your health.
Sounds good right?!
Let’s take a closer look as to what that means:
The early bird get’s the worm
Ideally each morning you should wake up before sunrise, anywhere between 5:30 – 6:00 am. The idea is that by awaking with the sun’s natural rays, you are able to tap into the rhythm of the day.
Eat your lunch like it’s dinner
Ayurveda philosophy suggests that you eat your primary meal at lunch. This supports the ability to digest everything, not just food but our feelings and thoughts as well. The idea is that the metabolic aspect of digestion, works most efficiently in the middle of the day.
Wind down with the sun
A shift occurs around 6pm in which a natural desire to relax your mind and body sets in. Rather than resist this, ease into it and enjoy the benefits of calming your self after a long day.
Time for sleep
Around 10pm it’s time to hit the hay. Try going to bed early as possible. There is a four hour period (10pm – 2am) in which Ayurveda thinking is that you digest experiences, emotions, and any remaining food from earlier in the day. This is the period for repair and renewal.
